COURSE OBJECTIVES

By the completion of this course, the students will be able to :
(1) describe and define the terminology and nomenclature commonly used in astronomy.
(2) observe stars at night by applying the basic concepts of star gazing.
(3) describe the tools and research methods used by modern astronomers.
(4) approach and study astronomical phenomena scientifically.
(5) apply fundamental physics and theory in explaining some of the observed astronomical phenomena.
(6) locate astronomy related resources from the library and electronic information on the Internet.

Exam 4	20.0%
2 Papers @ 5% each	10.0%	(no partial credit)
Lab Exercises	10.0%	(full credit as long as you complete the exercises)

Any missed scheduled examination, except pre-approved absence or medical reasons, at the discretion of the instructor, may result in a lower grade.

• "Attendance is MANDATORY for all students in laboratory course." (Undergraduate Catalog)
• Participation in the class is essential and extra credits will be given for active and constructive participation.  (This means that daydreaming in the class will not get you any extra credit even if you have perfect attendance).
• On the other hand, effectively, one letter grade will be lowered if you miss 4 classes or more.
