By integrating the hydrostatic equation with the help of ideal gas law, we would derive the Hypsometric Equation which relates the pressures (p₂ and p₁), at two height (Z₂ and Z₁) and mean layer temperature T:

where g is the acceleration due to gravity (= 9.80665 m s^-2) and R is the dry air gas constant (=287.04 J kg^-1 K^-1).
