By integrating the hydrostatic equation with the help of ideal gas law, we would derive the Hypsometric Equation which relates the pressures (p2 and p1), at two height (Z2 and Z1) and mean layer temperature T:

where g is the acceleration due to gravity (= 9.80665 m s-2) and R is the dry air gas constant (=287.04 J kg-1 K-1).
